Neat old brass mining tag from the ghost town of Bartlett, New Mexico.
Bartlett was a coal mining town a couple miles north of Gallup New Mexico, and
was in use from about 1900-1920. Today nothing remains of the site other than
a few building foundations. These tags were used for identification of men who
worked in the underground mines. Each miner would place his tag (with his ID
number stamped on it) on a peg board before he went down into the mine each
day, that way of there was a cave-in or explosion, it could be determined which
individuals were inside the mine at the time.
I am happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases. Thanks for looking!
